02 — Lore
Exhibit B — the rooster Appears in two frames. Never photographed alone, never photographed leaving. Considered a friend of the subject rather than an associate.
The earliest photo anyone agrees on is the payphone. A dead line on a corner in a city that stopped repairing payphones twenty years ago, and a bird holding the receiver like he was waiting on a callback.
After that he is everywhere. A bank lobby with three sets of hands in the air. The 7:40 northbound. A gym at two in the morning with a cat who thought he had a chance. A drive-thru window in the rain, handing over a bag and saying nothing at all.
The rooster is in three of the fifteen. He is not muscle and he is not a partner. He is a friend who puts on a suit when he is asked to, carries the bag without complaining, and never asks what the plan is. Every king should be so lucky.
In four years of photographs, nobody has caught him flying.

One of them is a fight. The other is a walk to work that goes badly. Neither involves flying.
